The UK dairy industry has been boosted by a £500,000 grant designed to help organisations reduce their carbon emissions.
The Carbon Trust has teamed up with Dairy UK to offer firms the chance to invest in energy efficient and low-carbon technology and machinery, reports farminguk.com.
Dairy farmers which adopt these technologies can significantly reduce their energy use and operating costs, thereby increasing revenue and potentially expanding their operations.
Fergus McReynolds of Dairy UK told the website: "Dairy companies have been committed to improving the energy efficiency of milk processing for many years.
"This project represents the opportunity to explore novel technologies, which have the potential to improve further the industry’s performance in this important area."
The funding is part of the Carbon Trust's £15 million Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator programme, which aims to reduce energy use and carbon emissions throughout UK industries.
