The British agricultural has been boosted by the continued support of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, questioned DEFRA's commitment to the sector during a question session with officials from the body.

Mr Williams claimed farmers are currently faced with the difficult task of having to produce more food while maintaining good environmental practices.

He therefore asked for support from the government department in order to achieve these goals.

"The response I received from the secretary of state that DEFRA's number one priority was to support farming, is most encouraging," he said.

"I will continue to maintain pressure on DEFRA in support of British agriculture and hope to see the department publish their vision for sustainable agriculture as soon as possible as an important first step."

The continued support of DEFRA could help boost production rates throughout the sector and heighten demand for machinery.
