The Welsh animal feed sector will welcome plans for an increase in lamb exports to Italy.

Welsh meat promotion agency Hybu Cig Cymru will talk with Italian meat importers and retailers in Naples to examine the benefits of the country's lamb, reports fwi.co.uk.

Italy already imports a large volume of Welsh lamb, with the country purchasing £8 million worth of lamb last year.

Gwyn Howells, HCC's chief executive, claimed the majority of the demand comes form the north of the country.

He told the news provider: "This week's event, organised in conjunction with a major Italian meat importer, is designed to showcase Welsh lamb to traders in the southern half of the country.

"The purpose of this mission is to help satisfy that demand, by providing practical advice on how best to prepare and sell it to suit Italian tastes."

Welsh lamb has Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status which means it must be born and raised in the country.
