The UK dairy industry has been boosted by the announcement that all stages of the supply chain will be covered by a new assurance programme.
Dairy UK, which represents the British dairy sector, has developed the new scheme which will cover the phases involved in transporting produce from the farm and beyond.
The new accreditation will apply to various areas and personnel such as sub-contractors, vehicle hygiene, complaints procedures and record keeping, reports farminguk.com.
Jim Begg, director general Dairy UK, told the news provider: "This new scheme means that industry customers and consumers can be confident that all stages of the supply chain are operated and inspected to the highest standards".
The programme will be gradually implemented in three different stages, including certification with the UK Accreditation Service and incorporation into the Red Tractor scheme.
