New sites for sand and gravel quarrying are being considered across south Wiltshire, in a move that could increase demand for belt conveyors in the region.
A public consultation has been launched concerning the areas, which include sites in the Upper Thames Valley, the Calne Area, south-east of Salisbbury, Bristol Avon and Sailsbury Avon.
According to the Salisbury Times, these sites are not necessarily Wiltshire Council's preferred or only choices, but the consultation will give local authorities a chance to gauge and consider the opinions of local people, community groups and organisations.
The potential quarry sites are being considered as part of plans for mineral extraction in the area over the next 16 years. Due to the size of the project, it could take some time before any approved sites become active.
Currently, the deadline for the consultation is October 31st. This has already been pushed back because of the extent of feedback that has been received.
The Office of Fair Trading announced last week that it is launching an investigation into how competitive the UK aggregates industry is.
