A quarry in Swansea Valley is set to be expanded after gaining planning permission from the local council, according to reports.
Powys County Council has approved plans submitted by Gwrhyd Uchaf farm in Rhwifawr to restore, extend and build a new saw shed at the site.
The South Wales Guardian has revealed that the quarry face will be 20 metres wide and three metres deep following the extension to the area.
Production levels could rise significantly, with the quarry able to extract more blue pennannt sandstone which is widely used in building construction. .
Local residents and campaign groups expressed their concern over the move, with several complaints issued over the potential impact to the environment, wildlife, traffic levels and the landscape.
In light of these complaints, the county council including stipulations in its planning approval such as requesting a £20,000 contribution from the quarry to improve local roads.
