farming industry was handed a huge boost following the announcement that an assistance scheme for young farmers will be extended.

Elin Jones, Wales' rural affairs minister, revealed that the Young Entrants Support Scheme (YESS) will run again next year.

The programme provides Welsh farmers under the age of 40 with funding and training to help them in their profession.

Applicants must be starting up as the head of a farm for the first time or have done so in the last year and demonstrate that they have adequate agriculture skills.

Ms Jones told fwi.co.uk: "The Young Entrants Support Scheme will play an important part in ensuring that the farming industry in Wales has a long, successful and ultimately sustainable future ahead of it."

Those interested in the programme can enter their applications between 18th October and 20th December.
