A promotional campaign has been launched in Watford designed to encourage residents to recycle.

Members of the Waste Watch organisation, which aims to reduce waste levels in the UK, have visited residents in the west of the town where recycling rates are among the lowest in the area.

Homeowners in Vicarage and Holywell also produce the largest amount of non-recyclable rubbish in Watford and the Waste Watch team has provided them with information and advice on waste handling.

Mayor Dorothy Thornhill told the Watford Observer: "Sadly this area has the lowest recycling rates in the town but I know from speaking to residents that they want to do more but some people don't always understand what goes in which box.

"This targeted help will support everyone to keep doing a bit more."

It follows a leaflet campaign by Watford Borough Council in the summer, which informed residents about the new kerbside plastic recycling service.
