A new campaign has been launched in Manchester which aims to clarify which items can be recycled in the city.

The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority will run the Recycle for Greater Manchester campaign for a period of 18 months.

Local residents will receive an information pack which will clearly outline what can be recycled and a list of those items which are commonly misconceived to be recyclable.

One particular focus of the scheme is to underline the fact that some packaging which is labelled as 'recyclable' may not be accepted in local recycling programmes.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, comedian Dave Spikey revealed that certain signs can be misleading.

He said: "What I'm saying is this, just because it says 'recyclable', don't take it literally because it's not necessarily always the case here in Greater Manchester."
