The biogas industry has been boosted by the government's pledge to provide significant funding to the sector.
Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed that the government will provide £860 million to organisations who plan to generate renewable heat, such as those in the biogas industry.
Although no exact details have been confirmed, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will undoubtedly help firms set up projects and construct new plants.
Gaynor Hartnell, chief executive of the trade body the Renewable Energy Association, expressed his relief at the "big breakthrough".
He said: "Finally renewable heat moves to the heart of UK energy policy, exactly where it belongs.
"Companies throughout the UK are poised to deliver on renewable heat, creating tens of thousands of green jobs over the coming decade."
The government also announced it will give £200 million to support the development of low-carbon technologies.
