A new sterilisation system has been launched which could speed up the food processing process.
French firm Steriflow has released the industrial-sized product which simultaneously heats and shakes a range of food products, including canned goods and bottles.
A company spokesman told foodproductiondaily.com: "Thanks to the shaking motion, the time needed for the sterilisation process can be cut by between five and ten times compared to a static retort.
"This means sterilisation times can be reduced from around 66 minutes to 18 minutes."
The news will be welcomed by those in the food production industry as it will enable them to process more goods and potentially increasing their demand for processing machinery.
Steriflow can also help preserve micronutrients in foods, with tests showing almost double the amount of vitamin C is present in soups which are produced with the new sterilisation technology.
