Plans have been unveiled for a new £300 million biomass plant in Liverpool, it has been revealed.
Renewable energy developer RES Group has confirmed that it aims to construct a facility capable of producing between 100MW and 150MW of power.
The new site could be located in Port of Liverpool at Alexandra Dock, with RES set to transport around 80 per cent of its required biofuel via boat.
Andy Martin, chief estate surveyor for Peel Ports, the owner of the Port of Liverpool, said: "We are delighted to be working with RES and look forward to them bringing their experience, capabilities and strong track record to this project.
"This project will bring significant benefits and green collar jobs for the people of Sefton, Liverpool and the North West. The development supports the Port's strategic plans to contribute to the low carbon economy."
RES aims to secure planning permission by autumn 2011 and complete the construction of the plant by 2015.
