The company behind proposals to build a new biofuel power plant in West Yorkshire have been advised by the local authorities to re-think its plans.

Earlier in the year Rocpower Ltd unveiled blueprints for a proposed vegetable oil-burning plant, to be constructed on the outskirts of the village of Bramham, a short distance from the town of Wetherby.

Although not dismissed outright by the local planning authority, the firm has been advised that it will have to reconsider its plans – particularly how it intends to make the plant's chimney blend in with the surrounding countryside – if they are to have a chance of being given the official green light.

"The planning officer has requested a re-design of the site layout for visual and amenity reasons," a Rocpower spokesman told the Yorkshire Post.

He added that a new application, complete with re-vamped design plans, will be submitted to Leeds Council planners "in due course".

This comes in the same week that plans to build a new alcohol distillery in the nearby town of Selby were unveiled by Sedacol UK.
