A new survey has found that Britons are among the worst in Europe when it comes to recycling manufactured technological goods.

According to a report from Consumer Focus, Britons dumped around 85 million mobile phones in landfill sites instead of recycling the items.

The survey, which was conducted by ICM on behalf of Consumer Focus, found that more than two-thirds (68 per cent) of mobile phone users have at least one old mobile phone or more, while just over one in ten (11 per cent) have five or more mobile phones lying around the house.

Consumers Focus' survey coincides with the launch of a new website aimed at encouraging people to recycle their goods after they have finished using them.

Graham Miller, director of Edward Robertson Web Design, which set up sellmyoldmobilephone.co.uk, said instead of letting old unwanted goods overcrowd landfill sites and damage the environment, people should consider recycling their products in order to mitigate the harm on the environment.
