A new waste collection initiative introduced to North Somerset has increased recycling rates in the area.
The waste collection service was introduced by North Somerset Council earlier this year and has caused local recycling rates to soar, reports the Western Daily Press.
In the month of September alone, local North Somerset residents recycled 67 per cent more waste than they did during the same period last year.
North Somerset Council's figures also reveal that the amount of non-recyclable waste collected has been reduced by 40 per cent.
The service consists of weekly collections of food waste and material for recycling, while regular waste material is collected every two weeks.
North Somerset Council recently gave local residents the chance to recycle pumpkins left over from their Halloween celebrations as part of their food waste collection services.
Residents were advised to place the pumpkins next to their food waste caddies on their normal food waste collection day and remove candles from lanterns.
