A growth review is only a small step in the right direction when it comes to tackling obstacles for manufacturing expansion, according to one trade body.
EEF has welcomed the government's decision to conduct the review, which will see government figures attempting to strip away constraining legislation.
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said that it will look at how it can "reform" structural barriers.
It will primarily focus on growth areas including professional and business services, digital and creative industries, manufacturing, health and life sciences, retail and construction.
However, the EEF has warned that ministers must adopt a different approach altogether.
Terry Scuoler, chief executive of the organisation, said: "Our economy doesn't just need stronger growth, it needs a different type of it. We need a new approach from government to deliver growth that will last and is driven by innovation, investment and exports.
"To achieve this, we need a government which acts and thinks differently as a partner with the private sector."
