The creative industries in the UK are benefiting from strong "complementary inputs" from the regions, according to a new report.

The National Endowment for the Science, Technology and Arts (NESTA) has revealed that the UK's creative sector has grown by almost 5.2 per cent since 2007.

In comparison, other sectors in the country have seen just over half that, at 2.9 per cent.

While London had the biggest share of the 'core' creative sector, other regions had a significant role in producing what the report describes as "complementary inputs".

This includes raw materials and processing – indicating the importance of the manufacturing sector for underpinning other industries.

The accelerated rate of growth in the creative industry could herald good news for manufacturing firms which are considering investing in new machinery.

Earlier in the week, the government announced that it would conducting a growth review which would focus on advanced manufacturing and the creative industries, among other divisions in the economy.
