Manufacturing output grew at its fastest in October since March, according to new government figures.
The Office for National Statistics has reported that output increased by 0.6 per cent month-on-month in October, beating industry forecasts.
In total, there has been a 5.8 per cent year-on-year boost in manufacturing output.
The figures show that output rose in some 13 manufacturing sub-sectors and fell only in two.
Also, the machinery and equipment sectors saw year-on-year growth hit double digits, at 16.8 per cent.
Seasonal factors were blamed for an 0.2 per cent fall in the wider measure of industrial output.
In addition, the seasonally-adjusted index of production went up by a marginally smaller 3.3 per cent.
The positive report follows the Confederation of British Industry’s call for the government to become more ambitious for the manufacturing sector.
John Cridland, the body’s director-general designate, said today (December 6th) that manufacturing is the "unsung hero of our economy" and that it is now well-placed to "lead the economic recovery".
