Manufacturing firms are set to benefit from continued government investment into a central manufacturing advisory body.

The venture is part of the growth review announced last month, which will see some areas of the economy become a key focus for the government's economic ambitions.

A paper outlining the government's growth strategy specifically for manufacturing was published today (December 13th) by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

BIS has said that it will invest up to £50 milliion over the next three years in the existing Manufacturing Advisory Service to support small businesses in becoming more productive and competitive.

Business minister Mark Prisk said: "A strong manufacturing base is essential for a balanced economy, where exports and investment drive growth, not debt and unsustainable government spending."

He added that the upcoming manufacturing summit in January would be where the government thrashes out longer-term goals for the sector with other stakeholders.
