Manufacturers in the food and drinks sector have reported a strong performance in the third quarter of the year, an industry body has said.
More than half (60 per cent) of manufacturers have recorded increased sales, while just over one in ten (15 per cent) have claimed that there has been a fall, the Food and Drink Federation reported.
Despite the economic conditions, a third said that they had begun new lines in the three months leading up to October.
Most manufacturers claimed to have absorbed the costs of higher input prices, but nearly two-thirds (64 per cent) expected that they would have to rise prices by the end of the year.
The report also revealed that "most" companies planned to continue investing in facilities, staff and research, while nearly half (44 per cent) are planning to launch new lines by the end of the year.
This could mean increased demand for equipment for processing crops and other raw materials.
