Local authorities in Buckinghamshire have been forced to reassess plans to build a waste-to-energy incinerator near Calvert.
The plan has been put forward by Waste Recycling Group, which was not the first preferred bidder, Bucks Free Press has said.
An earlier proposal from Covanta Energy fell through because of undisclosed commercial issues.
Commenting on the decision to re-open WRG's bid, councillor Martin Tett told the paper: "We are confident that the energy from waste solution proposed by
WRG is in the best interest of our council tax payers.
"Value for money was an important consideration throughout. We need efficiency, effectiveness and economy from the winning bidder."
However, campaigners have opposed the construction of the site near Calvert, because of its impact on the local environment and traffic
congestion.
Earlier in the month, Friends of the Earth resource use campaigner Julian Kirby called on the government to focus on recycling and to move
away from building incinerators.
