Manufacturers look set to benefit from the supply of a new variety of oilseed rape that is being made available in the UK.
According to Farmers Weekly, limited quantities of a new hybrid spring oilseed rape will be in hoppers this season.
DSV sales director Michael Mann believes that this new seed will further enhance the commercial opportunities for manufacturers producing rapeseed oil.
He notes that Makro has gone into trial with the agriculture and horticulture development board HGCA, developing a variety that produces the highest yield and largest oil content.
"The result is that Makro's combined gross output is 11 per cent higher than Delight, the current leader on the descriptive list," Mr Mann said.
He added that this looks to be a very profitable option for producers, which could allow them to further invest in their manufacturing processes and equipment.
Argirmoney recently warned that rapeseed prices are getting so high that they may prompt fuel groups to shun biofuel made from the crop.
