Firms involved in bulk materials handling can look forward to 2011 as the manufacturing market continues to grow, new research suggests.

Companies across the manufacturing sector saw output and orders increase throughout the last 12 months, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

However, the organisation warns that the cost of raw materials going into firms' hoppers is set to increase, which will have to be added to the price of finished goods coming off conveyors.

Ian McCafferty, CBI chief economic adviser, confirmed though that the recovery seen in manufacturing is strong and looks set to continue.

"Production has been boosted this quarter by a strengthening in both domestic and overseas demand and, over the next three months, companies expect further growth, driven by another rise in export orders," he said.

The Federation of Small Businesses recently claimed that confidence in the manufacturing sector had been knocked by the bad weather, which restricted access to raw materials.
