Recycling firms in Oxfordshire could see a reduction in the amount of reusable material coming down their conveyors in the near future.

Oxfordshire County Council has announced proposals to reduce the number of recycling centres in the county from eight to five, the BBC reports.

Some people have expressed fears that reduced access to the centres could result in more fly-tipping and less material going through recycling stations.

One concerned party is councillor George Reynolds, the environment portfolio holder for Cherwell District Council, who told the corporation he was "very concerned" about the proposals.

Yet councillor Ian Hudspeth, who chairs the Oxfordshire Waste Partnership, was defiant.

"I have faith in people that they won't suddenly all become law breakers and fly-tip," he said.

LetsRecycle.com recently revealed that a new standard has been drafted that will help recycling firms understand what quality of reusable wood can be sold on to other sectors.
