The manufacturing industry is not getting the young staff it needs to sustain positive growth, it has been claimed.

Paul McCairn of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce told the BBC that schools are not producing young people with the requisite practical skills needed to operate the machinery involved with production.

Mr McCairn said that business opportunities for British manufacturing firms are available, but he just can't seem to find the staff to help him fulfil the orders.

In response, the Conservative MP for Wolverhampton, Paul Uppal, said that the government would be investing in 75,000 apprenticeships.

That's very much a flagship of ours and on top of that we've got a back to work programme as well, which incentivises long-term unemployed to actually find jobs and to get the skills they need to progress in life," he told the news provider.

The British Chambers of Commerce's new Quarterly Economic Survey recently revealed that the manufacturing industry is driving the UK's economic recovery.
