Grain production is expected to pick up next year, as higher prices and a return to normal abandonment rates in countries like Russia look set to boost the prospects for crop processors in the UK.
The latest report from the International Grains Council forecasts global wheat production to rise by around three per cent in 2011/2012.
Based on a forecast for average yields, production is expected to rise to 670 million tons compared to last year, when world wheat production was estimated at around 647 tons.
Maize production is set to fall by around one million tons, although demand is forecast to grow.
More grain is expected to be imported into the European Union next year, which could also boost activity along heavy duty conveyors in the UK, as grain consumption continues to improve.
