A network of recycling groups has been set up in the north-east in an attempt to persuade more people to think about the things they throw away.
The Community Recycling Network North East (CRNNE) wants to link recycling firms with existing community groups to increase the amount of material that is reused, the Journal reports.
Covering the whole of the region, the network was set up with the help of funding from One North East.
CRNNE co-ordinator Sue Robertson said there are many community groups doing important recycling work across the north-east, and this new network will help them support each other.
He said: "All offer free collection of stuff which saves people having to phone the council for a bulky waste collection.
"The sector ticks lots of boxes and the public needs to be aware that they need to help it."
Great Britain was recently praised by the EU Commission for dramatically increasing its recycling rate since the year 2000.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the recycling industry includes; Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
