A new organisation has been created to help the construction industry engage with recycling firms.

The Construction Recycling Alliance is now welcoming applications from companies that are committed to improving the levels of recycling seen in UK building sector.

Acceptance to the scheme involves assessment and accreditation to ensure that all companies involved are doing their best to recycle reusable materials.

CRA director David Barnes believes that companies who can be shown to be increasing the amount of waste going through recycling centres will benefit from the good PR associated with a lower carbon footprint.

"By joining together under the CRA framework, companies will be able to effectively communicate with regulatory bodies and also improve their environmental credentials," he said.

Another recycling network, the Community Recycling Network North East, has recently been set up to help community groups in the region to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill and put more of it through recycling plants.
