The UK government needs consider more use of bio-mass plants in its renewable energy strategy.
This is the view of the Renewable Energy Association (REA), which claims that the current planning is far too reliant on wind power, Your Renewable News reports.
Some in the bio-mass industry are suggesting that the UK's wind profile is not sufficient to adequately meet the country's renewable energy needs.
REA chief executive officer Gaynor Hartnell agrees, adding that while wind power will be an important part of any renewable energy strategy, the government must pay more attention to other sources, such as bio-mass energy production.
"Wind does seem to get relatively better treatment than bio-mass. Government should embrace what bio-mass can deliver … the UK needs diversity and a portfolio of renewable technologies," she told the publication.
These comments come as council officials in Edinburgh consider the merits of a proposed new bio-mass site in Leith, which could provide renewable energy for half of the Scottish capital.
