acturing firms have been warned that the price of corn is set to continue rising.

Agricultural commodities have been becoming more and more expensive for some time now, the Daily Telegraph reports, and corn is leading the way in price rises.

Commodities trader Rabobank says the price of corn has risen nearly ten per cent since January, and shortly expects it to reach a record high.

Use of corn for ethanol fuel is believed to be having a major impact on bushel values, and the Rabobank's global head of agricultural commodities Luke Chandler believes that the debate over use of food products in fuel production will become more heated as prices rise.

This debate is likely to be led by food manufacturers paying a premium for corn, it is suggested.

However, there was better news for food manufacturing firms recently, after health secretary Andrew Lansley confirmed that the government would not be imposing any more "intrusive, restrictive and costly regulation" on the sector.
