have been unveiled for the construction of a new biomass power station in Southampton.
The new £300 million facility will be positioned at the Western Docks in Millbrook, and will burn biomass to supply energy for the local area.
It is believed that the 100MW factory will provide electricity for 200,000 homes – twice the size of the city of Southampton – providing 250 full-time jobs in the process
Due to the plant's location, the vast bulk of material for burning would be imported via ship, with 800,000 tons of sustainable wood, oilseed and cereals residue to be used each year.
A period of public consultation over the project has begun and residents have until March 18th to voice their opinions.
Meanwhile, in Edinburgh, the local council is still considering its decision over the proposed construction of a biomass plant in Leith, which would provide the entire city with its energy requirements.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the bio-mass industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
