
processing firms in South Wales have received a massive boost from the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG).
The WAG has revealed that by this time next month, almost every house in the region will have provision for food recycling collection, the South Wales Echo reports.
New figures from the authority indicates that Cardiff, Caerphilly and Bridgend councils have all already achieved total provision for their residents, increasing the amount of food waste going for reprocessing.
WAG environment minister Jane Davidson said she was "tremendously proud" of the progress made, adding that recycling programmes cannot ignore food waste.
"When people have separate food waste collections they can see just how much – and what kind of – food they throw away, and change their shopping and cooking habits accordingly," she told the publication.
Cumbria country council is also looking to bring in a food waste recycling initiative, and is currently asking for volunteers to help test a trial system.
