The UK economy relies on the brewing and pub sectors, which support close to one million jobs, according to new figures.
Some 980,000 British workers depend on these industries, which the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) believes strengthens the case against increasing beer tax hikes.
Jobs in breweries are "vital" while the economy is struggling, with the beer and pub trade adding over £21 billion to the UK economy every year.
The data emerged in a report by economic experts Oxford Economics, as ministers continue to mull over plans to introduce a beer tax in next month's budget.
BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: "This is the last thing we need. With the government looking for growth, with the right policies, we could be creating thousands of new jobs."
Earlier this month, Adnams finance director Stephen Pugh suggested that the progressive beer duty taxation system could level the playing field across the industry.
