an agriculture minister has welcomed European Union (EU) approval of proposals to allow trace elements of genetically modified (GM) material to be imported from other countries.
Gerry Ritz notes that there is growing concern about cross-contamination of animal feed crops, but added the EU appears to be coming around to the idea that some of this will be inevitable.
The approval given by EU member states will effectively allow trace elements of GM crops up to 0.1 per cent to be imported from overseas for animal feed, although the plans still need to pass through the European Commission.
Mr Ritz explained: "This is a positive step forward for Canadian producers, but access for feed and industrial use is not enough for our crop producers.
"We will continue to push for a solution that respects sound science and reduces the trade barriers to our safe, high quality Canadian crops."
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the animal feed industry includes; Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
