The £860 million Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will lead to a significant increase in the number of farmers investing in biomass technology, it has been suggested.
According to Farmers Weekly, the new scheme could have real benefits for rural businesses, which will be paid a tariff for using renewable energy sources.
The initiative is the first of its kind anywhere in the world and has been designed to reduce the UK's reliance on fossil fuels for its energy needs.
Energy minister Chris Huhne said that the benefits of the scheme will become more apparent as greater numbers of firms get involved.
"We expect as the industry grows, the cost of this equipment will come down and, as it does, the tariff will appear even more attractive," he told the publication.
Research from the International Institute for Environment and Development recently suggested that biomass will generate 30 per cent of global energy production by the year 2050.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the biomass industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
