Plastic recycling firms will have better representation in Europe after the formation of a new lobby group.

The trade association for European plastics recyclers EuPR has created the working group in a bid to improve the reputation of mixed plastics, Materials Recycling Week reports.

EuPR wants to drive more use of mixed plastics, which are often seen as difficult to recycle.

The working group's new chairman Dr Michael Scriba told the publication that existing market failures are preventing the development of mixed plastics recycling.

"It is the appropriate time for mixed plastics recyclers to voice their added value for the environment and contribute to the increased levels of plastic recycling in Europe," he said.

This follows news that Barnsley Town Council is introducing kerbside collections for plastics, as it looks to meet ambitious waste management targets.
