A football club in Essex is trying to raise funds by sending aluminium cans to recycling centres in the area.
Ifield Youth Football Club instructed players to collect aluminium cans wherever they could find them, the Crawley News reports.
Local residents have also been asked to pitch in, providing aluminium for the club to sell on to local recycling centres.
Club treasurer Martin Thompson said that the team's administrative staff have had to keep coming up with new ideas to help stay afloat.
He told the publication: "A tonne's worth works out at around 72,000 cans. We have been told that will get us around £870, which will be a huge amount for us.
"It is no mean feat, but we are hopeful."
The UK produces 8.2 billion aluminium and steel cans each year, with 70 per cent being used for alcoholic drinks, while the market is expected to increase at ten per cent annually.
