Firms specialising in oil extraction from seed will no doubt be pleased to hear that rapeseed production in Europe is expected to rise in 2011.
The EU's output of the oilseed fell for the first time in seven years during 2010, AgriMoney.com notes, but a new US Department of Agriculture report suggests production will rise again this year.
This increase will not be a large one, with a modest 160,000-tonne rise expected, as growth will continue to be limited by poor weather conditions in Germany and Poland, the report says.
However, biofuel is set to take up a larger proportion of the rapeseed output on the continent.
The report reveals: "In 2011-12, 63 per cent of the total rapeseed oil supply is expected to be used for biofuel.
"Higher mandates in Poland [for biodiesel consumption] add to the increase in European Union biofuel use."
News provider Bloomberg recently suggested that crop spoilage in the Ukraine could put pressure on rapeseed prices in the coming weeks.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the rapeseed oil extraction industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
