The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee (Efra) has called for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to establish a unified UK position on agricultural policy.
Efra is very unhappy with the proposed changes to the European Union's (EU) Common Agricultural Policy, and wants the UK to raise its objections with one voice, Meatinfo.co.uk reports.
The group wants Defra to push the EU to become more self-sufficient in the production and manufacture of cereals and animal feeds, relying less on financial support from the taxpayer.
"Ministers need to set out exactly how UK farmers will become self-supporting against a backdrop of rising fuel, fertiliser and feed prices and in the face of greater competition from third world countries that do not operate to EU standards," Anne McIntosh MP, Efra committee chairperson, told the website.
The Environment Committee recently voted in favour of banning EU-approved GM crops on the grounds of potential pesticide resistance.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the animal feed industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
