The future of rapeseed oil as a cooking ingredient has been further enhanced by a young entrepreneur from Aberdeen.
Gregor Mackintosh, 23, has managed to persuade Asda that rapeseed cooking oil has potential as a consumer product, with the supermarket chain now stocking his extra virgin oil in all of its 50 Scottish stores, the BBC reports.
The youngster invested £50,000 of company profits into new state-of-the-art equipment for extracting oil from rapeseed, and has seen his business thrive ever since.
Mr Mackintosh told the news provider that he is trying to build something long-lasting with the purchase of new equipment.
"I believe the recent investment … will help us meet demand from a wide variety of outlets – from hotels to independent stores and restaurants – as well as open doors to other well-known supermarkets," he said.
Earlier this month, fast food outlet Kentucky Fried Chicken revealed that all of its 800 UK outlets will be switching from palm oil to the more environmentally-friendly rapeseed oil.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the rapeseed oil extraction industry includes:
