The beverage manufacturing industry is seeing positive results from investment in recycling infrastructure, it has been claimed.

According to the latest data from the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (Ace UK), a third of local authorities now collect beverage cartons for recycling from kerbsides, Materials Handling World reports.

In London, as many as 61 per cent of the local boroughs collect this type of material, the organisation claims.

Ace UK chief executive Richards Hands said that investment from the major manufacturers in the sector has shown what can be done in recycling.

"In particular, we're committed to making recycling easier for the consumer and we urge local authorities to continue to work with us to increase kerbside coverage," he told the news provider.

This news comes after Wiltshire County Council scrapped plans for kerbside plastics collection, claiming that continuing with a four-month trial project it is "not cost effective".
