f proposals to build a new biomass plant in Southampton's Western Docks has been prompted by local concerns over traffic, noise levels and air quality.
Public consultation over the plant began in November, but the high number of complaints received has prompted the company behind the new power station to reconsider its plans, according to the BBC.
Helius Energy set up a dedicated website to enable members of the public and other interested groups to access information about the 100MW plant.
According to original projections, the planned renewable energy power station would have been capable of producing enough electricity for around 200,000 homes, saving up to 720,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year compared to equivalent coal-powered developments.
A statement by Helius published by the broadcaster said: "In response to the public feedback received, Helius has commenced a review of the siting, form and external appearance of the scheme.
"Helius will also review and update air quality, noise and traffic assessments."
