Firms working in the oil extraction from seed industry have been reassured that new EU restriction on rapeseed will not affect UK growers significantly.
New directives from Brussels dictate that the new maximum permitted glucosinolate level in rapeseed is to be 18 micromoles per gram from 2013, the Salisbury Journal reports.
Fears had been developing among UK growers that this could present a problem for their output, but expert Peter James has moved to quell these worries.
The Frontier seed manager told the newspaper that the levels will apply to planted seeds, and there will be no need for grown crops to be tested.
"From harvest 2013 all growers will have to do is warrant the rapeseed they supply is grown from certified seed of a variety officially registered as meeting the 18 micromole limit," he said.
However, British growers were recently warned that dry weather in the UK could lead to lower than anticipated yields of rapeseed and wheat.
