Dry weather across Europe could have a major impact on firms involved in the oil extraction from seed industry.

Warm conditions in England, France and Germany have put the European rapeseed crop at risk, according to Bloomberg.

The UK saw just 20 per cent of its usual average rainfall last month, making it the driest April on record, following on from lower than usual rainfall in March.

Industry group Home-Grown Cereals Authority told the news provider that rapeseed stocks are now "in jeopardy".

"The world needs a bumper crop in all grains from the U.S. and from Europe and from Canada or we are in trouble," Dennis Gartman, an economist and author of The Gartman Letter, told Bloomberg.

Better news for firms in the oil extraction from seed industry came earlier this week, when Frontier seed manager Peter James claimed that new EU rapeseed directives will have no major impact on UK growers.
