The firm behind the planned biomass site at Dundee harbour has called on the Scottish Government to ensure that the planning system is flexible enough to encourage further renewable energy projects.
Forth Energy is planning to construct a 100 megawatt biomass plant at the site, which could power 160,000 homes, The Courier reports.
However, some residents have opposed the plans, saying that it could harm air quality in the area.
But Forth Energy believes the current planning system is too constrictive, and some vital renewable energy projects may not get off the ground in future.
"If we are to harness Scotland's renewable energy potential and meet the long-term aspiration identified to make Scotland a net exporter of power, then the planning system must process applications more efficiently," he said.
Hampshire County Council recently gave the go-ahead for the construction of a waste wood processing plant that will serve the region's biomass industry.
