The Renewable Energy Review has made a mistake in downplaying the use of biofuels in transportation, it has been suggested.
A "cautious approach" to the use of biofuels in transportation was called for by the Committee on Climate Change Report, highlighting concerns over sustainability.
However, the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has described the sustainability worries as "groundless", and expressed "deep disappointment" over the government's position on biofuels.
CLA president William Worsley said biofuels are in fact a key factor in the battle against climate change.
"Failure to act on replacing dirty diesel with gas in public transport has a detrimental effect on climate change and air quality. Farmers and land managers can help mitigate climate change by enabling biogas to displace fossil fuels," he explained.
Biofuels expert Richard Griffin recently claimed that using rapeseed oil as a renewable power source can help to drive down carbon emission in the UK.
