A new waste management centre in Wales is set to be a "one-stop shop" for all the recycling needs of local residents.

The Llwydcoed site will service all the residents of the Cynon Valley, thanks to grants from the Welsh Assembly Government, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Head of the Valleys, the Cynon Valley Leader notes.

Facilities will cater for recycling everything from white goods and tyres to cardboard and clothing.

Councillor Anthony Christopher, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for frontline services hopes that the new waste management centre will result in a sharp rise in the amount of material that is reused, reducing the council's exposure to landfill costs.

"This new centre will make recycling easier for Cynon Valley residents, as the site is dedicated to their needs and based on our award-winning Ty Glantaf site," he told the publication.

Waste contractor Biffa Municipal recently called for recycling targets to remain in place, despite opposition, as they help councils to plan for the future.
