A new global research facility for the brewing industry is to open in Nottinghamshire.
The new centre will be based in the University of Nottingham's School of Biosciences, and will cost £3 million to set up.
According to the firm behind the project, SAB Miller, the aim of the centre is to find ways of increasing the shelf life of beer, as well as methods that use less water and energy in the brewing process.
Graham McKay, SABMiller's chief executive officer, said it is vital that groups are still willing to invest in research.
"Significant improvements in water and energy efficiency will only be achieved if we continue to commit resource and capital to driving the necessary degree of change," he said.
The announcement comes shortly after it was announced that Andrew Griffiths, Conservative MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, has 100 MPs backing his Parliamentary motion to reverse the recent increases in beer duty.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the brewing industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
