The biomass industry is set to play a key role in helping to preserve the forests of Britain, it is claimed.
Speaking to Business Green, The Woodland Trust said that more needs to be done to safeguard that future of forests in the UK, with landowners given more incentives to manage them better.
However, in response, the Renewable Energy Association's head of policy, Paul Thompson, claims that this will be dealt with by the Renewable Heat Incentive, which will lead to growth in the biomass industry.
He told the new provider: "The RHI is key because it will step up demand for chip and pellets, and possibly for logs, that we can get out of the woodland.
"And long term that should definitely make it worthwhile for woodland owners to better manage their woodlands."
Usewoodfuel Scotland recently launched a new campaign to promote the country's biomass industry, with the help of European funding.
