The head of Yorkshire power plant is anxiously waiting for the government to give official backing to the biomass industry.
Drax, near Selby, has already pumped over £100 million into a project to turn the coal-fired power station into one that also uses biomass, according to the Yorkshire Post.
However, the firm's chief executive Dorothy Thompson has revealed that the company will not be investing any more money until the government completes a review into which subsidies will be available for the biomass sector.
Ms Thompson told the publication that the case is "compelling", and she expects the government to push biomass.
"Biomass has significant potential to deliver an attractive renewable electricity to meet the government's ambitious targets for 2020 and beyond. It's low carbon, low cost and low risk," she explained.
Meanwhile, construction has now started on a £60 million biomass plant in Scotland, which will burn by-products from the whisky distillation process.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the distilling industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
